It all started with a stitch – literally. No grand plan, no big idea. One weekend Lingua Franca’s founder Rachelle Hruska MacPherson was looking for a means to burn off some anxiety and turned to embroidery. She picked up an old cashmere sweater, a needle and thread and with that, Lingua Franca was born – a subversive underground movement to counteract the forces of mass production, mindless consumerism, and the patriarchy (just kidding, kind of). Today, Lingua Franca is a line of sustainably-sourced, fair trade luxury cashmere sweaters all hand-stitched by women in NYC. Lingua Franca also has a line of home and travel accessories as well as a natural bath & body collection carried at the Bowery Hotel. The brand is carried at select luxury retailers around the world and has two retail stores in NYC, along with Palm Beach.
