Architectural Digest: The 13 Stunning Towns That Comprise the Amalfi Coast

Architectural Digest April 28, 2020

What better way to indulge in a little armchair travel than by flipping the pages of a photography book dedicated to Italy’s Amalfi Coast? AD contributing editor and Valentino global brand ambassador Carlos Souza and his wife, Charlene Shorto, herself the director of Oliver by Valentino, have photographed and penned the book Amalfi Coast ($95, Assouline) as a love song to the beloved destination. “For the upcoming season, there is nowhere else on the planet where I would love to enjoy the first sunny rays of summer than on that magical strip on the Tyrrhenian Sea,” says Souza. “The scent of lemons and geraniums in the air as well as the beautiful sweet waters of the Amalfi Coast are natural blessings from the gods, given to us mere mortals.”

The images in the book capture not only the natural beauty of the Italian coastline, but also its architectural beauty, with colorful buildings, decorated with ornate tiles, nestled into the cliffs. Souza and Shorto have also captured the joy of visitors and locals alike, from families and friends at parties to models posing in front of Amalfi vignettes—Souza and Shorto do hail from the fashion world, after all.
